I am very proud of the work I accomplished in my four years at CZI/Biohub as a
program manager focused on open science.
It was gratifying to leverage my background in biological research to lead and
support projects to improve the process of science,
making it more reproducible, equitable, and efficient.
My projects were diverse–
landscaping new areas of investment,
developing and shepherding proposals through the grantmaking process,
supporting communities of researchers engaging in open source,
evaluating the impact of a multi-year grant program,
partnering cross-functionally to improve practices in the organization.
A few times a year,
I’m asked to submit a 1-2 paragraph biography of myself
for a conference, website, or some other part of my professional work.
I’ve gone through many iterations of my biography,
not only because details like job and accomplishments change,
but also because the types of things I consider relevant and important for my career have shifted.
I’ve run the gamut from super serious bios
to more tongue-in-cheek, flippant descriptions of my work,
with none of them really feeling like they capture what it is I do.
For someone who has bought into social media and reproducible research in so many other ways,
it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly why it took me this long to invest more fully in a website for myself.
Regardless, I’m pleased to finally be taking the leap and creating a place to store information about my professional life,
as well as details regarding my personal life that may intersect with my profession.
